Is virtual reality the next big thing?
A few weeks ago, some rumors about Samsung building a virtual reality handset started spreading all over the tech community. We were a bit skeptical initially, but it turns out that the South Korean manufacturer has already filler an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office, for the name ‘Gear VR‘.
Of course, this application doesn’t give any details, but for the moment, it’s enough to confirm what we considered just a rumors until now: Samsung is going to try entering the virtual reality market, with another Gear device. Still, even though their latest Gear wearables are based on Tizen, it’s less likely for a VR headset to also use it.
On the other side, Samsung could team up with Oculus VR, a company that already has a name in this industry, and the upcoming Gear VR could use their software.
Last but not least, the headset will use your smartphone’s display, in order to watch movies or play games.
We’ll keep an eye on the subject and come back with an update as soon as anything new emerges.
