Samsung Galaxy S8 - Will it live up to the hype?
Last year’s Samsung Galaxy S7 was a huge success, being considered by many one of the best Android smartphones ever, so it was pretty obvious that everybody was looking forward to the South Korean manufacturer’s phablet, the Galaxy Note 7, since it was supposed to showcase a couple of new, impressive features, showing what Samsung can really do!
Unfortunately, the batteries started going boom and, well…you know what happened. This issue led to a lot of people saying that they’re never buying Samsung smartphones again and all kinds of claims which seriously affected the manufacturer’s fanbase. Ok, so how can they fix this? By releasing a new high-end smartphone, without any problems and able to completely change the game! And this is exactly what we’re expecting from the Samsung Galaxy S8…
You better have a good reason for this, Sammy!
Over the past years, the hype around the new Samsung flagship was starting to build months before the official launch and this year is no exception. However, they managed to surprise us a bit with the launch date! Initially, it was believed that the Galaxy S8 will make its debut one day before the start of MWC 2017, in Barcelona, allowing Sammy to steal the show. But…they changed their mind.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 will be unveiled on March 29 and will start hitting the shelves somewhere in April. Yes, we know, it’s a bit late, but it’s actually the Galaxy Note 7’s fault!
You prick, what have you done?
According to The Independent, citing an official statement, the company is looking forward to “moving ahead with a renewed commitment to safety”.
“The lessons of the past several months are now deeply reflected in our processes and in our culture.More than ever, we are committed to earning the trust of our customers through innovation that redefines what is possible in safety, and as a gateway to unlimited possibilities and incredible new experiences,” Samsung said.
But there’s still one big question left: Will it live up to the hype?
There’s no doubt that the expectations are big, very big from Samsung and if they somehow manage it to screw it with the Galaxy S8, we have some bad news for them. To be more specific, Google, HTC, LG, Motorola, Huawei and even Xiaomi have their chance at the crown. Because, let’s be honest, Samsung is the number one Android manufacturer right now. And let’s not forget about their war with Apple! Another fail from Sammy would allow the Cupertino-based manufacturer to laugh at them diabolically and enjoy the success of the upcoming iPhone 8.
Even though there are still two months left until the launch and everything we know so far about the Galaxy S8 is based just on rumors, we can’t deny that it looks like a real beast of a smartphone, with tons of processing power under the hood and a futuristic design. Yes, this could be the winning formula for Samsung! But we had the same opinion about the Galaxy S7…
Therefore, we’re talking about a snapdragon 835 under the hood (an Exynos variant will also be announced), alongside 6 or 8 GB of RAM, 64 or 128 gigs of internal storage, a 12 MP camera, fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C and so on.
But hey, most 2017 flagships will have a similar configuration, so Samsung must have a few aces in its sleeve in order to make this phone live up to this whole hype we’re talking about. Sure, the camera might help it stand out, but let’s not forget about the Huawei P10, rumored to have a top notch dual setup, and the second-gen Google Pixel, which, considering how good the snapper on the first gen was, is also expected to rock an excellent camera.
Ok, so what now?
Well, Galaxy S8’s only chance, if you ask us, is to come with a combination between innovative features and – yes, we’re going to use this expression – mind-blowing design. Remember the Xiaomi Mi Mix? That kind of design!
Apparently, the screen will stretch right to the edges of the body, while the fingerprint scanner will be hidden somewhere under the display, facts confirmed by a presumed live image of the Galaxy S8.
We must admit, it looks good and if this turns out to be the real deal, Samsung will have a very big plus. Let’s not forget that a lot of people buy a phone just because they like how it looks!
And by innovative features we mean something really useful, able to make users wonder how it was possible to live without them for so long, not a silly iris scanner like the Note 7 had. Let’s be serious, it was useless, but rumors claim that it’s going to be back.
The smartphone will most likely introduce a voice-enabled virtual assistant, going by the name of Bixby and able to support mobile payments and convenience-oriented functions. Ok, this could be pretty cool, but what if we told you that Samsung is also planning to introduce a desktop dock called DeX, similar to Microsoft’s Continuum?
Keeping it short, by placing the phone on the dock, you can transform it into an Android desktop computer, allowing it to be connected to a keyboard, monitor and other hardware. You must agree that this sounds incredibly good!
Samsung, don’t disappoint us!
To sum up, we believe that Samsung will manage to deliver a top smartphone! After all, we’re talking about one of the biggest manufacturers in the world, with years and years of experience. Yes, they screwed it with the Note 7, but we’re convinced that they managed to learn from their mistakes and, with the Galaxy S8, they will regain people’s trust.
